In Q3 of 2015, Disney and Lucas Films reached out to the Weather Channel to discuss promoting the new Star Wars film on multiple platforms with TWC's most popular product, Branded Backgrounds. Branded Backgrounds are located in prime locations and focus on the visual story versus content. You may see Branded Backgrounds on the main screen of the mobile app, tablet app, online local page (ex. New York’s Weather), and on the Local On The 8’s. The creative is woven into our platforms and must visually be relative to the viewer’s current weather. If it is a wintry night when you check the different platforms, a custom designed ad visually representing a wintry night will appear integrated with the UI.
My role in this request was to brainstorm with a team on ways to create unique experiences for the die-hard Star Wars fans as well as find assets and design the Branded Backgrounds on our different platforms. With Branded Background mock requests, we have to find assets from various sources and they usually require heavy photo manipulation with quick turn around times.
